Homemade chicken dumplings with garlic sesame dip 🍲

Momos, Dumplings, Dim Sum,  whatever you call them, they have one thing in common - they are DELICIOUS! πŸ˜‹
I have always been a fan of Asian food, and dumplings are in my top 5 favorite Asian Foods list.
This is the first time I tried to make dumplings, and I was so proud of myself :')

Go try this recipe out, and flaunt those Masterchef skills on Instagram πŸ˜‰

Ingredients :

  • For the dumplings:

- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup + 2 tbsp water at room temperature

  • For the dip:

- 3 cloves of garlic, minced (I LOVE garlic so I used 3 cloves, you can use 2 cloves if you are not a fan of garlic)
- 2.5 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • For the filling:

- 3 chicken breasts, minced (Use ground chicken if you have it)
- 0.5 cup scallions, finely chopped
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- salt to taste
- 1 tbsp of minced ginger
- 1 tbsp of minced garlic
- white pepper to taste

Servings :

50-60 dumplings ( I made these for 2 people 😱, eating dumplings for the entire next week now)

Prep time :

3 hours

Cook time :

5-10 mins per batch of dumplings

Recipe :

  • Prep for the dumplings :

1. Mix the all purpose flour and the water together.
2. Knead the dough properly until the ingredients are mixed well.  (At least 10-15 mins)
3. After you are done kneading, cover the dough with a damp towel and a lid. Let the dough rest for 2 hours πŸ•˜
4. After 2 hours, knead the dough again for 5-10 mins, cover it with a paper towel and let it rest for 30 more mins. (almost done, I promise!)
5. 30 mins later, your dough is ready to go. It should be super soft, smooth and stretchy!
6. Mix all the ingredients for the filling together, and your filling is ready too!
7. Mix together 3 minced garlic cloves, 2.5 tbsp sesame oil and 2 tbsp soy sauce together to make the dip / sauce.

  • Making the dumpling covering :

1. Take your kneaded dough and slice a part of the dough. Keep the rest of the dough covered with a damp towel, so it doesn't dry out.

2. Roll the dough you have taken out into a long stick ( we should be able to make 6-12 pieces from this stick of dough depending on the size)

3. Cut them into as many pieces as you can. Remember they should not be too big or too small.

4. Take these pieces one by one and start rolling them into small flat circles with the help of a rolling pin. These small circles should be paper thin and will be very delicate.
5. Don't let the dough circles be very sticky. Dust flour on the dough circles while rolling, if they are sticky.

6. Fill a pot with water and set it to boil on the stove.

  • Putting in the filling and sealing the dumplings:

1. Take your pre-made dough circles and put a little bit of filling in the center. DO NOT put too much of filling in the dough circle, otherwise it will be hard to seal and will burst open.
2. Fold it in half and start sealing the dumplings.

  • Boiling the dumplings:

1. Start putting your sealed dumplings into the boiling water.
2. Boil till the dumplings start floating.
3. Once they start floating, add 1 cup of cold water and keep the dumplings in until the water starts boiling again.
4. This process should take somewhere between 5-10 mins.
5. Once this is done, check if the chicken is cooked. If not, let them boil for another 2-3 mins.
6. Take the dumplings out, serve hot with the dip! ♨
